Welcome to Dynamics –
Corde lisse is one of the bravest and purest of the aerial arts, famous for its thrilling dynamic tricks and big open drops. In this two-hour workshop on both corde lisse and silk, we are going to start exploring dynamics – different kinds of beats, how to use them creatively, and how they link or set up other moves. The technique of body placement and momentum, and understanding how this power can be harnessed and used, unlocks an exciting world of acrobatic possibilities for your aerial practice. Come fly with me! No prior rope experience is necessary, however this workshop is for people with a decent level of aerial experience, fitness and body awareness. Must be able to climb and invert. Straddle beats (or flares) would be an advantage.
The Big Drops –
Sometimes you know they’re coming, but sometimes they are completely out of the blue – for many people, drops are one of the most exciting moments in a silk routine. This 90 min workshop aims to move beyond the classic double star and double ankle drops, exploring some of the lesser known big drops, giving aerialists more options to build into a routine. There is a focus on correct aerial technique and we will also look at stacking – how to join two or more drops together for more drama. This is an intermediate/advanced level workshop – students should be able to climb and invert repeatedly, and should know s-lock, hiplock and catchers lock.
Aerial silks has always been one of the most romantic and enchanting of the circus arts, with endless possibilities for creative expression. In this 90-minute workshop, we will be learning some beautiful new choreography and then experimenting with creative expression, so each aerialist can get a feel for their own personal style in the air. With a focus on aerial technique and movement quality, come and rediscover why you fell in love with silks in the first place! Students should be able to comfortably climb and invert, and have a decent level of fitness and body awareness.
